1. Start with Healthy Soil
Healthy soil is the foundation of any successful farm. Test your soil regularly and enrich it with compost, cover crops, and natural fertilizers. Healthy soil means healthier plants and better yields.
2. Follow the Sun and Seasons
Pay attention to the seasons and how the sun moves across your land. Choose crops that grow best during certain times of year and plant them where they’ll get the most sunlight.
3. Water Wisely
Water early in the morning or late in the evening to prevent evaporation. Use drip irrigation or rain barrels when possible. Overwatering can hurt crops just as much as underwatering.
4. Rotate Crops to Refresh the Land
Avoid planting the same crop in the same place year after year. Crop rotation helps prevent pests and diseases and keeps your soil rich with nutrients.
5. Learn from Elders and Each Other
Some of the best farming knowledge doesn’t come from books—it comes from people. Talk to experienced farmers, share what you learn, and build community through growing together.
